DOGSET has developed a structured home-prepared dietary protocol intended to assist dogs exhibiting neurological symptoms associated with dietary toxicity.
This protocol is designed to eliminate excessive dietary compounds commonly found in commercial dog foods, most notably potassium chloride, which is frequently used as a sodium substitute.
Understanding the Toxic State
Chronic exposure to elevated levels of potassium chloride disrupts normal electrolyte balance, interferes with neuromuscular signaling, and impairs nerve conduction. Over time, this creates a systemic toxic state.
The resulting symptoms — including head tremors, spasms, and seizure-like activity — are physiological responses to electrolyte imbalance, not evidence of epilepsy.
For the protocol to be effective, the dog must consume only the foods listed in the recipes. No additional foods, treats, or supplements may be introduced during the intervention period.
If non-listed foods are consumed, the detoxification timeline resets and must begin again from day one.
Once the diet begins, neurological symptoms such as head tremors may persist for approximately nine (9) weeks.
This period reflects the time required for systemic electrolyte normalization and elimination of accumulated dietary compounds.
Approximately two (2) weeks into the protocol, dogs commonly begin to scratch. This response is associated with toxin elimination through the skin.
The expelled material accumulates near the skin surface beneath the fur, producing irritation and itching. Scratching may continue throughout the remainder of the nine-week period.
The Diet Structure
The protocol consists of three rotating recipes administered in a specific sequence.
